I run an association. While I am very technology literate, building web sites is not my core business. But I did recognise some time ago that using the internet was good for my association. There was obvious potential to reach a wider audience and at the same time improve the service delivery to members because a significant part of that service delivery involved the delivery of information.
So I worked out what I wanted to do and looked around for someone who could build me one of those. After some searching, I found the guys at Creatop.
They introduced me to the concept of web sites based on databases that I could update myself from my office using nothing more complicated than the web browser and a word processor. That was still very new at the time but these guys obviously knew what they were doing. All I had to do was tell them what I wanted to do and they did the rest - after a few heart attacks, because I was pushing the boundaries a bit. The end result is that I can concentrate on the content - which is my core business.
Since then I have learnt quite a bit about this web stuff. And all that has enabled me to do is push the boundaries even further. But the guys at Creatop keep meeting the challenges.
The thing I like about them is that they realise that this is my web site and not theirs. I know what I want, and they work with me to deliver it rather than tell me what I should have. And, to me, that is the secret of using the internet - work out precisely what you want to do first because almost anything is possible these days. Then talk to someone who can build it for you.
